File sharing and peer-to-peer applications have created a free-for-all on copyrighted material, and with the quick expansion of broadband Internet connections, file sharers have since moved on to movies, bringing the Motion Picture Association of America into the fray.

Some people think a pit bull is not a dog that should be brought into a home, especially one with children and other dogs. Certain county animal control facilities will not adopt out pit bulls.

A group of about 20 Eastern students marched across campus in support of the legalization of marijuana Monday. "The March for Cannabis" began at 4:20 p.m. in the South Quad. Students marched around campus stopping at Lincoln Avenue in front of Old Main to inform passing vehicles about their cause.

Study abroad students applied what they learned about recycling on their travels through Australia and New Zealand. The Eastern communication department decided to take a group of students within the department to both of these islands during the month of June.

Cougar Lake Pool, slated to close three weeks before the normal closing date of Labor Day due to budget issues, has not gone without resistance.
Administration officials have cited budget concerns as the primary cause, saying the pool has developed a $35,000 deficit over the past five years due to a decline in memberships and general use.

Once considered the primary authority on American agriculture, Gilbert Fite, Eastern's fourth sitting president, died at the age of 92 on July 13. He was born and raised in South Dakota, but has been living in Fort Myers, Fla. since his retirement. He is survived by his wife, June; his two sons; and grandchildren.

Eastern received a figure close to $6 million on July 9, from the state, reducing the university's fiscal year 2010 budget deficit by 12 percent. The money received is a reimbursement from the state and will help avoid a monetary gap predicted for August. Prior to the state's reimbursement, Eastern's Board of Trustees was contemplating borrowing a credit line of $7 million to address the monetary gap.
