As of July 24, the federal minimum wage will make a 70 cents increase, jumping from $6.55 to $7.25. Many see this increase and it puts a smile on their faces, but soon after that instant gratification does not often last too long. There are two main arguments about minimum wage: there are those who believe that increases in minimum wage are the results of higher costs of living.

At the heart of the proposed "American Health Choices Act" is the "public option." This gives every American the option of buying into a health care plan run by the federal government. Ostensibly, this would provide competition and choice that would put downward pressure on the price of health care and improve quality of care.

Eastern freshman running back Desmin Ward moved up to No. 2 on the Panthers' depth chart before Eastern's first game of the season at Central Michigan because of nagging injuries to Norris Smith, Travorus Bess and Chevon Walker's three-game suspension.
Bess returned to form against Illinois with a 183-yard rushing performance
But it was Ward who scored the Panthers' lone touchdown on the ground.

It was announced Tuesday that the Eastern women's basketball team has been invited to participate in the preseason WNIT, held during the opening weeks of the 2009-10 season. The Panthers are scheduled to kick off the season with a trip to Ohio State in the first round of the WNIT on Nov.

In 1991, Desert Storm veterans were coming home, and the nation was ready to celebrate the safe return of troops.
A group in Charleston formed to plan a community event for the Fourth of July.
"A lot of parents of Desert Storm veterans got together to have a small celebration that turned into a large celebration," Betty Coffrin, one of the original Red, White and Blue Days committee members, said.

The Taste of C-U, one of Champaign's biggest annual events, was back again for its 39th year and had the Champaign Park District hard at work, but not for what you would originally think. As severe weather blew through Champaign, cancelling the Taste Friday night, crews were hard at work early in the morning and steady into the afternoon to help clear out debris and get the Taste up and running once again on Saturday.
