File sharing and peer-to-peer applications have created a free-for-all on copyrighted material, and with the quick expansion of broadband Internet connections, file sharers have since moved on to movies, bringing the Motion Picture Association of America into the fray.

Some people think a pit bull is not a dog that should be brought into a home, especially one with children and other dogs. Certain county animal control facilities will not adopt out pit bulls.

A group of about 20 Eastern students marched across campus in support of the legalization of marijuana Monday. "The March for Cannabis" began at 4:20 p.m. in the South Quad. Students marched around campus stopping at Lincoln Avenue in front of Old Main to inform passing vehicles about their cause.

Study abroad students applied what they learned about recycling on their travels through Australia and New Zealand. The Eastern communication department decided to take a group of students within the department to both of these islands during the month of June.

Eastern received a figure close to $6 million on July 9, from the state, reducing the university's fiscal year 2010 budget deficit by 12 percent. The money received is a reimbursement from the state and will help avoid a monetary gap predicted for August. Prior to the state's reimbursement, Eastern's Board of Trustees was contemplating borrowing a credit line of $7 million to address the monetary gap.

Once considered the primary authority on American agriculture, Gilbert Fite, Eastern's fourth sitting president, died at the age of 92 on July 13. He was born and raised in South Dakota, but has been living in Fort Myers, Fla. since his retirement. He is survived by his wife, June; his two sons; and grandchildren.

The Gulf of Mexico's oil spill documentary, produced by geography instructor Cameron Craig, is now officially in a thorough research stage, delaying its release date until further notice. When Craig and his team returned from the Gulf Coast, he expected to release the documentary in the fall.

As the six-week summer session comes to an end, students prepare for finals as well as final papers, presentations, and accumulative homework assignments. Dave Hodgeman, a senior sociology senior, said he is taking summer classes to graduate at the end of the eight-week session.

All of us at the DEN have had such a blast this summer - with our fun get-togethers, inside jokes and late nights. We recently just had our last staff meeting, where we gave awards to everyone-but they were funny awards that demonstrated their lives at the paper these past few months.

Graduation from an institution of higher learning is a red-letter day in any student's life. Students pursuing degrees and/or certificates are preparing for their futures. Graduating students have been equipped with the skill-set, know-how and experience that a college atmosphere can provide.

Women's rugby coach, Frank Graziano, is bringing in one of the biggest recruiting class this fall. "The recruiting class is not only large, but talented," he said. Graziano said there will be roughly 10 new girls this fall. He said he had hoped to bring at least eight to 10 girls, but he wasn't expecting to be able to get 10.
